Comfort Food Is In

What's next in food trends? If chef Daniel Boulud's new menu is any indicator, comfort food--which already populates lots of local menus--is the au courant way to feed nervous New Yorkers. Boulud is offering a special "Comfort Me Big Apple" dinner menu in the lounge at his four-star flagship Daniel. "I can't solve the world's problems with my mushroom, barley and duck soup, but I am confident it will make you feel better," Boulud says in a press release. Among the special selections: roasted chicken with glazed root vegetables and herbed mashed potatoes, braised short ribs in red wine with celery root pur?e, and an upscale version of macaroni and cheese gratin with champignons des bois. For every prix fixe meal ordered from the menu, Daniel is donating $5 to the Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund, which is assisting the families of food service workers who were lost in the World Trade Center attacks.
