July 11, 2013: Top Buzz-Worthy Brands, Oscars Plan Preshow Concert, Nude Body Painting in Times Square

1. TOP BUZZ-WORTHY BRANDS: Ford is the American brand with the best reputation, according to market research firm YouGov's biannual rankings. Amazon and Subway follow, along with some surprising choices. Huffington Post has the list: http://huff.to/153uodO

2. OSCARS PLAN PRESHOW CONCERT: A new concert preceding the Academy Awards will feature Oscar-nominated scores and songs. The new event, planned for February 27 at U.C.L.A. three days before the awards, also will include onstage conversations with composers and film directors. Hollywood Reporter: "It was not immediately clear how moving song and score performances to their own evening might impact the Oscars show itself—whether the same performers might also appear on the broadcast. As the governors noted, while the most recent show featured all five nominated songs, that had not been the case in the preceding years." http://bit.ly/12G21Ae

3. NUDE BODY PAINTING IN TIMES SQUARE: Artist Andy Golub, whose niche is public body painting, surprised tourists by working on nude male and female models in the middle of Times Square. When he tried a similar stunt in 2011 he was arrested, but a change in city law made the spectacle Wednesday legal. New York Post: "As models Gianna James, 21, and Ethan Itzkow, 23, doffed their duds for the full-frontal—and backside—painting, passerby Roman Shusterman, 32, said of the onlookers, 'I don’t think they’re watching it for the art.'" http://bit.ly/13PNnvy

4. FLOCK OF SHEEP TO PROMOTE—WHAT ELSE?—WOOL: The Campaign for Wool, which counts the Prince of Wales among its supporters, is making its Italian debut with some help from the textile's producers: a flock of sheep. The animals are part of a stunt from Woolmark that will take place September 10 during the high-end textile trade show Milano Unica. Women's Wear Daily: "In addition ... the windows of Milanese department store La Rinascente will display the creations of students from six Italian fashion schools that reworked wool to highlight its qualities, such as breathability, elasticity, durability, and naturalness, among others." http://wwd.us/1atenob
