Red Cross Heading to Billboard Awards

The American Red Cross is adding a charitable facet to the swag-suite concept in honor of the Billboard Latin Music Awards this weekend in Miami. Held in the Bank United Center on Saturday, the “Retreat” suite is where recording artists in town for the awards will head to get free swag—just because they’re famous (or semifamous, or about to become famous); awards sponsor Telemundo asked its charity of choice, the American Red Cross, to take part in the gifting suite. The result: the Red Cross Lounge, a pit stop where artists will have the option to autograph and donate their swag to the nonprofit, with the items to be used as online and live auction donations for local chapter fund-raisers. It’s anybody’s guess as to who will be feeling charitable on Saturday, though the folks at the Red Cross are betting on industry veterans to be the most generous.

The Red Cross is also getting some exposure during the award ceremony—camera and production crew members will sport T-shirts bearing the organization’s signature red cross emblem. Not only will live audience members be privy to the subtle advertisement, but television viewers will as well, if and when crew members are caught on camera.
