'ESSENCE's 13th Annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards. 2020

“The overall inspiration was the 50th anniversary, which is a golden anniversary, so gold was the tone with monochromatic bold pinks and goddess Renaissance,” said Jovanca Maitland, ESSENCE director of live events and experiential, of the 2020 event. “[There were] gold and pink tone Swarovski Crystal round pearls on the tables, as this speaks to the classic and timeless side of the brand.”

Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Governors Ball, 2019

In 2019, the academy’s annual Governors Ball took place at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland immediately following the Oscars on Sunday. The event—which drew 1,500 winners, nominees, presenters and other industry types—was an homage to global cinema, featuring a presentation of iconic movie moments plus ballroom decor that evoked old movie-theater designs. Lois Burnwell, a makeup artist and chair of the academy's awards and events committee, oversaw the event for the second year. She worked with Cheryl Cecchetto of Los Angeles-based Sequoia Productions on the ball's decor and production. (Cecchetto and her team have been producing the Governors Ball for more than 30 consecutive years.)

‘Vanity Fair’ Oscars Party, 2019

The New York Times might think the Vanity Fair Oscars party has lost some of its appeal, but the annual Sunday-night event still drew a who's-who of Hollywood stars in 2019 such as newly minted Oscar winners Lady Gaga, Spike Lee, Olivia Colman and Regina King. Hosted by editor Radhika Jones, the party again took place in a custom-built venue between the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts and City Hall. The space comprised a few different spaces, including its signature striped carpet, a glass-encased reception pavilion and a banquette-filled dining room where poached sea bass and roasted broccoli were served during the ceremony. 'Vanity Fair's Campaign Hollywood, 2017

Vanity Fair's Campaign Hollywood, benefits a different charity each night in a week’s worth of events leading up to the Oscars, while also highlighting films and stars from award season. In 2017, the magazine worked with L’Oréal Paris for the Young Hollywood party (pictured), toasting the industry's up-and-coming stars at Delilah restaurant on Feb. 21. Hosted by actress Dakota Johnson and Vanity Fair’s executive west coast editor Krista Smith, the evening benefited the Roar Foundation Shambala Preserve and featured poker tables, a balloon-filled photo booth and cocktails. Vanity Fair held three more parties throughout the week, teaming up with Barneys, Lancôme, Dom Pérignon and car company Genesis to raise money for the ACLU., St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and more.

'ESSENCE' Black Women in Hollywood Pre-Oscars Awards Luncheon, 2014

In regard to the 2014 Black Women in Hollywood event, Candace Montgomery explained that ESSENCE recently "delivered to market some pretty eye-opening research about how black women view themselves in media. A great deal of messaging around confidence and beauty rose to the top.” To that end, the clear-top cocktail tent included a Target-sponsored “Power of Our Presence” wall where guests could pull a message of inspiration; as the messages were removed, images of honorees appeared beneath the star-shaped installation. Other integrated sponsorships included Lincoln's video capture, the L'Oréal Paris lip bar and Colgate Optic White red carpet shots that guests could upload and share. Activity around the event’s hashtag, #EssenceRedCarpet, was robust.

A giant gold Oscar statuette stood in the party space at the 2014 Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Governors Ball, where fabrication came from Bill Ferrell Company, Studio Left and Sosa Sisters Designs. Irma Hardjakusumah was the technical designer. The event again got a more meandering and socializing friendly passed hors d'oeuvres and small plates format of 50 dishes from Wolfgang Puck.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Governors Ball, 2013

After abandoning its seated dinner format from 2012, the 2013 ball, produced and designed once again by Cheryl Cecchetto of Sequoia Productions, stuck with a sampling of more than 50 passed bites and plates from Wolfgang Puck and chef Matt Bencivenga, including a greater emphasis on meatless dishes. Academy governor Jeffrey Kurland returned to chair the ball. Mark Held of Mark's Garden matched the overall aubergine color scheme using orchids, artichokes, calla lilies, kale and fern shoots as part of the floral decor. And flowers appeared to grow out of the pedestals of glass-topped cocktail tables.

QVC's "Red Carpet Style" Pre-Oscar Party, 2013
