NACE's Prom Night Delivered Nostalgia

February 15, 2006
"Dust of your prom shoes, step back in time and have some fun," said Tracey Black, program chairwoman for the National Association of Catering Executives' (NACE) South Florida chapter. Once guests entered the Hilton Deerfield Beach through an archway of balloons, a night of high school memories came rushing back as NACE honored industry professionals and raised money for Kids in Distress, a charity that helps abused children, at its prom-themed annual awards dinner.

The cocktail hour consisted of butler-passed hor d'oeuvres including spanikopita and breaded Parmesan artichoke hearts and a silent auction, which offered prizes including a stay in the Boca Raton Resort and Spa to lunch for 10 and a dessert platter by Catering by Lovables. Excitement and anticipation built as guests waited for the ballroom doors to open. Once inside, all attention was focused on Premier Events' draped ceiling, which emulated the feeling of standing outside under twinkling stars. Another highlight of the evening came in the form of the lovely "Moonlight Table." Placed front and center for all to see, the table was adorned with an elegant rose centerpiece, tall candelabra, fine china from Panache Party Rentals and silvery white linens from Over the Top. The remaining tables were dressed in black and gold—a dramatic contrast. Guests who bid for seating at the "Moonlight Table" received white glove service and savored an exquisite variety of fine foods including seafood Napoleons and veal.

Jimmy Jam Productions made sure that attendees kicked up their heels and danced by offering great music and taking song requests. Energizing entertainers dressed in old-school prom attire—think powder blue tuxedos and ruffled shirts—mingled and danced with guests throughout the night. Naturally, no prom would be complete without prom pictures. Jeff Kolodny of Jeff Kolodny Photography was on hand to capture the moment.

"It was very exciting to have the finest professionals gather together to be a part of something so fun and to celebrate all our efforts throughout the entire year," said event coordinator and prom chairwoman Noel Brown of Medallion Occassion Boutique, who made sure no detail was left out. Various industry awards were handed out, but the biggest effort of the evening went into choosing a king and queen. Ultimately, Bonnie and Domenick Fimiano from Cafe Ala Carte won the coveted title.
