We stopped by the Olana Partnership’s Moorish-theme benefit last week in the private East Village studio of artist Izhar Patkin, which needed little decor, as the site is adorned with an eclectic mix of funky furniture, art, and antiques. Guests wandered amid the studio’s many rooms—one space has lounge seating covered with Middle Eastern-style fabrics and is decked out with similar rugs and floor lamps—and the courtyard, which featured decorative brass tray tables arranged with small multicolored wooden stools, as well as the lush vine-laden rooftop garden. The partnership administers the Persian-style house of 19th-century painter Frederic Edwin Church in Hudson, New York, so the exotic venue was a natural fit. (Last year’s party was at Skylight, and in 2003 the benefit was at the Peter White Studio.) Olivier Cheng Catering and Events stayed in line with the Moorish theme with hors d’oeuvres and sweets like scallops with lemon confit and blood orange tartlets.
