Food trucks are one of the latest trends in catering throughout South Florida. Here's a look at a three new companies that can be hired to cater events.
1. Little Havana restaurant La Camaronera has gone mobile with the launch of the Fish Box truck earlier this month. The colorful vehicle serves easy-to-hold versions of the restaurant's menu of fried and grilled fish platters and sandwiches. Dessert offerings include Key lime pie and tres leches cake. Lunch box options start at $14 for the Minuta, the company's signature fish sandwich, as well as a side item, dessert, and drink. The Shrimp Box, $16, includes fried shrimp, a side item, dessert, and drink. A full fish fry is also available for groups at market price. Appearances at events require a minimum order of $1,000.
2. Sakaya Kitchen's Dim Ssäm à Gogo truck launched earlier this month in downtown Miami, serving a mix of Asian and Latin food served out of a custom graffiti-riddled vehicle. The truck has its own menu—including lots of pork dishes as represented in the truck's exterior’s graphics—but also serves the restaurant's signature dishes such as lettuce wraps filled with fried squid, popcorn shrimp, and pork belly. Cookies and specialty pretzels are available for dessert. Rental prices start at $300 per hour, with a three hour minimum during peak times (Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and $200 an hour during off-peak weekdays—though prices can vary based on food consumption costs during the rental period. Late night rentals are also available from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. for $500 an hour. Additional travel fees are based on an event's location.
3. For on-the-go Mexican fare, Key West-based Nacho Mama’s Mexican Grill serves classic Mexican dishes like carnitas and loaded tacos, plus desserts like churros and sweet fried sugar and cinnamon tortilla chips. The truck is available for special events throughout South Florida without an additional charge for travel from the Keys. Pricing starts at $300 for three hours of service and includes a choice of three menu items.
