Fandango Comic-Con Party

On July 9, Chad Hudson Events produced Fandango's first Comic-Con event at the new Omnia Nightclub; in recent years, Fandango parterned with studios to co-host parties, but this year held its own event. The NBC Universal-owned movie-ticketing service brought the band Best Coast for a live performance on the roof of the venue, marking what was also the three-month-old club’s first party associated with the convention.

NY Drawing Booth

The two-minute hand-drawn portraits from NY Drawing Booth are a unique alternative to the standard photo booth. Artists mingle among the event crowd, sketching the fun party favors with an iPad and stylus. The shareable images can include custom branding as well as framing. On-site printing is also provided. NY Drawing Booth is available nationally; pricing is available upon request.

The New Media Party, returning for its second year, featured several inventive uses of technology at events. Produced by Event Farm, the party incorporated sponsors such as Vntana, which created holograms of guests that were then projected onto the walls of venue Carnegie Library. Other sponsors included Lyft, Microsoft, AOL, and Yelp, which created a listing for the event and allowed guests to post reviews and photos.

Not every event has a stage, but any eye-catching area can be a smart spot to place a hashtag. That was the case with the June 5 release party for the Project X Xtended Cut DVD in Los Angeles. Produced by the Visionary Group, the backyard-bash-style affair for Warner Brothers and Break Media included an 18- by 10-foot pool, which had a banner marked with the event name and hashtag sitting at the bottom.

Turning tweeting into a competition drives major social media engagement—not to mention huge buzz at the event. During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, prompts directed guests to use a tweet-operated Polaroid vending machine at the Ocean Drive Sun Covered Pool Party.

Meetoo

Meetoo, the real-time polling and messaging app from Lumi, released several updates in late May. Moderators can now disable the creation of participant profiles so audience members can use the app anonymously. The profile settings can be changed instantly so hosts can quickly adapt to changes in the mood or circumstance. Additional updates allow hosts to customize the app by adding instructions, speaker biographies, agendas, logos, photographs, and more.
