Ever dreamed of creating a magical winter scene for an event? Snow Effects is here to bring that dream to life. What started as a family business supplying products for Christmas tree lots has evolved into a unique venture offering ultra-realistic artificial snow for events, photography, and decor. Whether it’s a Hollywood movie set, a New York fashion show, or a winter-themed corporate retreat, Snow Effects provides the best fake snow—and a touch of magic that’s as environmentally friendly as it is stunning.

“We’re bringing the bulk fake snow used on movie sets to everyday events,” says Snow Effects co-founder Alan Pursell. “Our snow isn’t just realistic; it’s also earth-friendly, unlike the plastic shards you might find elsewhere.”

From Christmas Trees to Global Events

Snow Effects’ roots date back to 1968, when the founders began by making wooden stands for Christmas trees. Over time, they started flocking trees to mimic snow-covered boughs, a practice that quickly became popular. Today, Snow Effects’ biodegradable fake snow has been featured in everything from major fashion shows to themed events at large meeting venues like The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Recently, their snow graced an Edgar Allan Poe-themed New York City fashion show and an Ice Age exhibit at the San Antonio Zoo, transforming these spaces into immersive, snowy landscapes.

A Product That Delivers Realism and Sustainability

Unlike synthetic, plastic-based snow, Snow Effects’ products are designed to look and feel incredibly realistic. The artificial snow company offers two primary options, both of which are paper-based: SnowScape, a non-adhesive snow ideal for ground coverage and large areas, and SnowHold, an adhesive version perfect for vertical surfaces like trees and architectural features. Both products are biodegradable and fire marshal-approved, making them safe as both indoor fake snow and outdoor fake snow.

Event planners and decorators appreciate how easy Snow Effects’ products are to use. Orders can be placed online and are typically shipped within 24 hours. Smaller projects require nothing more than spreading the snow straight from the bag, while larger projects can benefit from rentable machines for quick and even application. For more intricate designs, the SnowHold adhesive allows for snow to be applied to posts, shrubs, and even entire facades—all of which can be easily washed off with water after the event.

The company’s snow isn’t limited to just white, either. “We can create pink snow for Valentine’s Day or even black ash for a Day of the Dead theme,” shares Snow Effects marketing director Chris Vallier. This customization extends Snow Effects’ appeal to creative planners looking to craft unique experiences.

Transforming Spaces and Experiences

One of Snow Effects’ most memorable projects was a ski-themed event at the luxury, meetings-primed property The Broadmoor. While the venue featured all the traditional trappings of a winter event, from curling lanes to inflatable snow globes, it wasn’t until Snow Effects laid down a snow blanket that the scene truly came to life.

“The emotional and visceral reaction of the guests was incredible,” Vallier recalls. “People were making snow angels, throwing snowballs, and immersing themselves in the moment. It’s those reactions that make our work so rewarding.”

Chandler Petersen, conference manager at The Broadmoor, found Snow Effects easy to work with and appreciated their diligent communication.

“SnowScape is wild!” she says. “It looks just like real snow but feels like cotton. It's easy to clean up. I did snow angels that day, and there was no residual on me. It's an amazing tool for winter wonderland events, and I recommend it 10 out of 10.”
