Sarah Mullins, DMCP, 35, works in Indianapolis as Vice President of Event Services at Accent Indy, a DMC Network Company. As a 2018 40 Under 40 honoree, Mullins discusses her passion for the events industry.
What I do: I oversee the day-to-day sales and operations of the only Accredited Destination Management Company (ADMC) in Indiana. I have a strong focus on strategic planning and directing the overall operations of the company, while balancing my own workload of programs for corporate and association groups visiting Indy.
Greatest career accomplishment: One of my favorite memories is being awarded Destination Management Rising Star by the Association of Destination Management Executives International in 2013.
Impressive Stats: I lead a team of 10 who produce multi-million dollars in events annually, while managing over $1 million of my own clientele. I am active in our community, working closely with our CVB and city leaders serving on local organizing committees for large, citywide events. Specifically in 2018, I am the lead point of contact for two international programs that will take place within two weeks of one another and collectively entertain more than 25,000 attendees with a total of seven events. One of the events is a city first, a workout for 18,000 people in the streets of downtown Indy. Through my vendor relationships, I’ve been able to save these clients over 8 percent in product costs and service fees.
Specific improvement I’ve made: I have had a significant role in creating and developing new proposal templates, costing sheets, and procedures to make daily work more efficient. Our profits have increased as a result, and not because we’re charging the client more, but because we have more efficient internal processes. Outside our company, I’ve led sessions and webinars with my fellow DMC colleagues that have offered many of our tips and tricks we’ve developed to help be more efficient.
