This Week: Art, Boat, and Car Shows Across Florida

The Miami International Boat Show begins today and runs until Monday, February 20, at various locations, such as the Miami Beach Convention Center, Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center, and the Miamarina at Bayside. The newest powerboats, engines, and accessories from 2,300 leading marine industry manufacturers will be on display…The Jacksonville International Car & Truck Show runs from Friday through Sunday at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. Produced by Paragon Group Inc., a consumer show organization company, the show will feature the 2006 models of Dodge, Jeep, Mazda, and other car manufacturers, along with a sneak peek of next year's models. There will also be a kids' fun zone and daily performances by living statue artist the Fountain Lady…The 43rd annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival starts Saturday and runs through Monday at various locations throughout Coconut Grove. Produced by the Coconut Grove Arts & Historical Association Inc., the festival will feature works from 330 artists, live entertainment, and cuisine from local restaurants…Also on Saturday, the Art Center/South Florida promotes its fifth annual Winning Art Raffle benefit with an exhibition brunch at its gallery on Lincoln Road. Starbucks will provide coffee and pastries as guests preview the work by the Center's resident artists that is up for bid. The actual drawing and silent auction will take place March 25. …The Love and Hope gala takes place on Saturday evening as well at the Westin Dilpomat Resort & Spa to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. Atlas Floral Decorators is providing the decor for the Fire and Ice-themed event, which will have a special performance by the Love and Hope international chairman Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees and entertainment by Music by VaronAmrit Resort & Residences is celebrating the opening of its sales center on Saturday as well at Singer Island in West Palm Beach with an event based on the five elements. Touch Catering will be providing health conscious menu items, the Himalayan Institute will be offering wellness consultations, and professionals from the property's Aveda Spa will be hosting a bar with customizable spa products.

Thursday, February 23: The Weizmann Institute of Science is hosting its major fund-raising gala at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach…Friday, February 24: The fifth annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival begins today and runs through Sunday at various locations throughout South Florida. Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida and Florida International University (FIU) host the festival each year. Proceeds benefit the Teaching Restaurant and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center at FIU. Celebrity chefs such as Emeril Lagasse, Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis, plus local celebrity chefs such as Marc Ehrler from the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, Douglas Rodriguez of OLA, and Carmen Rodriguez of Carmen the Restaurant, will be showcasing the best of the culinary world at grand tasting, seminars, and special events…The 14th annual North Florida Boat Show is being held at the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center through Sunday. Fifteen boat dealers are displaying the latest watercrafts available this year…The fifth annual Crawfish Boil takes place at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens. It will include Cajun dishes, frozen drinks, and live entertainment by the Big Fins Blues Band. All proceeds benefit the Fairchild Challenge…The Florida Festivals and Events Association's regional seminar will be held at Edison College's Lee Campus in Fort Myers. Its last convention's highest-ranked speaker, Greta Schulz (president of ProActive Training & Consulting Inc.), is hosting a seminar entitled Selling Sponsorships…The DeBartolo Family Foundation All Star Charity Gala tales place at the A La Carte Event Pavilion. Presented by SunTrust Bank, the evening will feature a live and silent auction to benefit the foundation, plus a special performance by Boyz II Men…Saturday, February 25: JM Family Enterprises Inc. hosts the third annual Denim and Diamonds gala at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Comedian Jack Mayberry and comedic magician Michael Finney will entertain, plus there will be a silent and live auction, dinner, and dancing. All proceeds will benefit Deliver the Dream, a nonprofit retreat program for families facing serious illness or crisis…Also tonight is Noche de Gala, held at the Lightner Museum in honor of St. Augustine's founder Pedro Menendez de Aviles. The 16th century-themed masked ball will include costumed reenactors, catering by Casa Monica Hotel, and music by the All Stars Orchestra… Additionally, tonight the Rakkasan Chef Shawn Eric Fralin will host a four-course chocolate tasting dinner at the Press Room. Menu items include an Avocado and almond soup with white chocolate Godiva liqueur, flambéed oyster intermezzo, snapper rolled in crushed roasted hazelnuts and cocoa powder with dark chocolate shavings and more…The Armory Art Center of the Palm Beaches presents its annual Artist's Ball: Get Painted gala tonight. Guests are encouraged to wear white since resident artists will be painting them as part of a living canvas… Monday, February 27: In preparation for its Stars 4 Stars weekend in April, the Reach for the Stars Foundation is hosting a meet and greet with current Miami Dolphins Vonnie Holliday and Lance Schulters, plus former player Jay Fiedler and host WFOR4's Jill Martin at Michael's Kitchen in Hollywood. The evening will include hors d'oeuvres and wine. The main event, benefiting people with cystic fibrosis, will take place April 1 through 3.
