This Week: Variety of Fests Begin Across Florida

The 15th annual Florida Film Festival continues its ten-day run of screenings, seminars, and related events until April 2. The festival, produced by the Enzian Theater, began on March 24 and most of the 135 documentaries and short films from around the world are being shown at the theater and other locations throughout Maitland…The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg begins tomorrow until April 2 at the city's Bayfront Center. Besides high-speed racing, the event will also feature airplane stunt shows and concerts…The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science and Museum of Florida History present the Florida Wine Festival, which also begins tomorrow and runs until April 1. The festival features wine and food tastings, grape stompings, a parade, a concert, and more. Also on Friday is the 14th annual Springing the Blues Festival at the Seawalk Plaza in Jacksonville Beach with live entertainment from more than 18 musicians. It runs until Sunday…The Cajun Festival takes place on Saturday at the Black Hammocks adventure park. The festival will feature authentic Cajun food and live entertainment from the Porch Dogs and Twisted Fate…The Maitland Spring Festival of the Arts, held at Lake Lily Park, begins on Saturday as well and runs until Sunday. More than 200 artists will be selling their work…Spring Fiesta in the Park, another arts and crafts festival, takes place in downtown Orlando at Lake Eola Park at the same time...Scott Communities, for the deaf and disabled, presents Art From the Heart on Saturday. The art show runs until April 7 at the Diego Victoria Fine Art Gallery in North Miami Beach.

Tuesday, April 4: The Saks Fifth Avenue in Tampa's WestShore Plaza is hosting the third annual Fashion Funds the Cure, presented by Mercedes-Benz, Saks, and the Bank of Tampa to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The models appearing in the fashion show have survived or are still battling cancer. Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be provided by Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Amore Catering, Bonefish Grill, Blue Martini, and others. There will also be silent and live auctions…Thursday, April 6: The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida presents the third annual Coral Gables Wine & Food Festival. A block of Giralda Avenue will be closed down to house wine and food tasting stations plus live entertainment. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the lung and pulmonary research program at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine… Saturday, April 8: Wednesday, April 19: Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons and the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation are hosting the second annual Art For Life Palm Beach gala at the Mar-a-Lago estate of Donald Trump. This year, Jamie Foxx; Antonio "LA" Reid, chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group; and Denise Rich will be honored for their philanthropic efforts. Funds raised at the gala will support more than 70 arts and educational youth programs created by the foundation in New York and Palm Beach…The Worth Avenue Association kicks off Fiesta on Worth Avenue, a celebration of Latin fashions and cuisine, with Viva Fiesta, a cocktail reception at the Colony Hotel. The event takes place on Saturday, April 22, and will include Latin-inspired cuisine, entertainment such as a Carmen Miranda look-alike contest, and cigar rollers. Worth Avenue retailers are donating products for the live auction. Proceeds will benefit the New Hope Charities.
