Tonight, one of year’s biggest gatherings of art dealers, collectors, and museum professionals kicks off with the preview gala of the Art Dealers Association of America’s Art Show at the Park Avenue Armory. The gala will feature catering by Taste Caterers, which also operates the expo’s on-site cafe. The show officially begins on Thursday and continues through Monday. Tomorrow, stylish socialites will flock to the Frick Collection’s Young Fellows ball. Called “A Dance in the Golden Age,” the ball is inspired by the museum’s collection of 17th century paintings. The interior design and architecture firm Robert Couturier & Associates is handling decor.
Friday, at a different armory—the 69th Regiment Armory, to be exact—the Modern Show art fair opens and runs through Sunday. On Saturday, the indie-style Designers & Agents fashion trade show begins at the Starrett-Lehigh Building and continues through Monday, while at the Javits Center, the Gay & Lesbian Business and Entertainment Expo opens. The trade show includes the Same-Sex Wedding Expo and Passport magazine’s Travel Show and ends Sunday.
All eyes will be on the West Coast Sunday as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences presents its Academy Awards at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre. Meanwhile, the academy hosts its official New York celebration at Gabriel’s restaurant, and Entertainment Weekly’s viewing party takes over Elaine’s. The Fashion Coterie trade show takes over Pier 94 and the Show Piers on the Hudson through Tuesday. Kids rule at the Children’s Expression Project’s Artrageous event at Metropolitan Pavilion, which benefits the Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families and gives kids the opportunity to enjoy games, entertainment, and making art. Next Monday, foodies gather at Pier Sixty for the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program’s annual fund-raiser. Chefs from restaurants including Aquavit, Daniel, and Nobu will be preparing dishes, and the event will honor chef Charlie Palmer. At Lounge on Monday Nylon magazine, Sixty, and Energie will host a party concurrent with the Fashion Coterie show.
