Here are three new teambuilding activities to suit interests ranging from perfume-making to mini golf to problem-solving challenges. All are available throughout the U.S. and Canada.
1. Perfume Studio offers workshops in which participants can create their own custom fragrances. Sue Phillips, who helped launch scents for Elizabeth Arden and Tiffany & Company, leads the workshops, explaining top and base notes and providing historical tidbits on well-known perfumes such as Chanel No. 5. For a teambuilding approach, groups can design and market a product. Pricing starts at $135 per person, which includes the consultation and a 20-milliliter custom fragrance. Travel fees may apply for events outside New York.
2. Teambonding has added a new, philanthropic twist to its mini golf challenge. The Tin Can Build-Your-Own Mini Golf Course program requires participants work together to construct a mini golf course out of supplies like tubes, pipes, and lumber, as well as canned goods, which are donated to a local charity (along with the entire mini golf course) after the event is over. The program, which is available worldwide, is about two hours long and requires at least 2,000 square feet of indoor or outdoor space. Pricing starts at $ 2,800 for up to 29 participants and includes a custom program, materials, and a facilitator to lead the activity.
3. New from Pleasanton, California-based Corporate Games is the Amazing Journey, a program inspired by the television show Amazing Race. Groups must work together to figure out a list of 10 cities that comprise a race route. Clues are obtained by solving various challenges such as assembling a puzzle or skiing (on the floor, not the snow) through an obstacle course. The event can be done in various locations throughout a city or within a convention center or hotel that has hallways, stairwells, and empty rooms where activities can take place. The company works worldwide, and prices start at $2,500, which includes a facilitator and all aspects of the event except travel costs, if necessary.
