To celebrate Missy Elliott receiving MTV’s Video Vanguard Award at the V.M.A.s, the network partnered with Pepsi to host a two-day consumer experience in New York with numerous photo ops and stations inspired by her music videos. Produced by BMF, the experience included a photo booth where guests could appear as a hologram in “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” video, wearing Elliott’s iconic costume.

Stiiizy Flagship Store Opening

Cannabis brand Stiiizy opened its first flagship store in downtown Los Angeles on August 24. The 6,500-square-foot retail concept includes Instagrammable vignettes by local artists and a 29-foot installation by California artist Retna, in his signature style of graffiti letters.

Howard Johnson by Wyndham’s Sweet Escape

Howard Johnson by Wyndham celebrated its ongoing, $40 million hotel room redesign of 200 properties with a public pop-up August 22 and 23 in New York. The pop-up featured multiple summer-theme and candy-inspired vignettes, including a replica of the new retro-inspired room made entirely out of candy such as marshmallows, M&Ms, and sour tape. Level Events handled production and Hook Fabrication handled fabrication of the event.

Urban Skin Rx Pop-Up MedSpa

Urban Skin Rx held a pop-up for bloggers and media to preview the Clear and Even Tone Body Collection on August 21 and 22 at Mr. C Seaport Hotel in New York. The new products, set to launch in October, were promoted in a hedge and floral wall designed by John Goodman. First and Last PR conceptualized and executed the event.

Samsung Unpacked

Samsung held its 10th annual Unpacked event on August 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The main stage for the keynote presentation featured two arches that measured 43.2 by 25.6 meters, which connected to create a cathedral-like structure. The structure’s entire display surface consisted of 54,414,920 pixels. Invnt produced the experience in partnership with Cheil Worldwide, Samsung’s in-house marketing agency. After the keynote, attendees could check out the Galaxy Experience Journey, which offered eight interactive stations incorporating presentation themes and products that were unveiled. Booking.com’s “Sand”-sion

Booking.com celebrated National Sandcastle Day by opening an 8-by-18-foot sandcastle that was available for overnight stays August 23 and 24 at Luna Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The company worked with both the City of New York and Luna Park to secure permitting for the structure, which was created in conjunction with the 29th annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Competition. The interior featured a queen bed, a bar cart, and other accoutrements like flip-flops and sunscreen, as well as beachy decor. Watermill Center Summer Benefit

The Watermill Center’s annual Summer Benefit, “Tabula Rasa,” took place in July. One of the evening's more popular works was "Untitled" by John Margaritis, with performances by Robert Wilson. First presented at Art Basel Miami 2018, the rotating basketball sculpture, installed at an intersection in the woods, featured Tin Man and Dorothy-like characters slowly moving around the woods, the former occasionally striking the metal sculpture. Watermill Center Summer Benefit

Two boxes framing two couples—one on a park bench, one on a bed—featured models engaged in hyper-realistic dialogues with performances of intimacy, while occasionally breaking the fourth wall to stare down passing spectators.
