ATLANTA—To celebrate the launch of its new credit card design, which is made with metal from a retired Delta Boeing 747 aircraft, American Express and Delta Air Lines hosted a seated dinner on a 747 plane at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta.
Around 60 guests, including press and influencers, attended the June event. In partnership with Resy, local chef—and Top Chef finalist—Kevin Gillespie of Atlanta restaurant Gunshow collaborated on a unique menu of modern interpretations of classic airplane meals and snacks, like the beloved Biscoff cookies, along with wine pairings and craft cocktails. Other menu items included a savory fig tart, wild striped bass, and grilled peaches with pepper jelly—a definite upgrade from pretzels and ginger ale.
The limited-edition card design is made with 25% metal from a Delta Boeing 747 aircraft, inspiring the setting for the dinner experience. “Even though we hosted the dinner in a former plane, we wanted it to embody the premium travel experience that Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business Card Members get with the card,” an American Express spokesperson told BizBash. “We worked with Delta and our partners to design an elevated event within a small, gutted-out space."
Both the Delta Flight Museum and the 747 exhibit are available for private event bookings. Housed in newly renovated airplane hangars originally constructed in the 1940s, the museum features 68,000 square feet of event and meeting space.
“To build hype and anticipation around the limited-edition card, we set out to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience that would immerse press and influencers in the history and significance of the Boeing 747,” the spokesperson said. “This event was the perfect backdrop to show how this very special card design merges history with innovation.” The cards are made from aluminum salvaged from plane No. 6307, which spent more than 116,000 hours in the air and traveled 68 million miles during its 27 years of service.
