As interesting as "Bitstreams" and "Data Dynamics" sound, many of the attendees of the Whitney Contemporaries annual Art Party fund-raiser at the Whitney Museum of American Art neglected these exhibits in favor of drinking and partying in the museum's downstairs patio area. The Contemporaries, a group of art patrons under 40, know how to throw a classy party. The combination of cocktails, an eclectic mix of music by DJ Pat "Caramel" Regne, and a very stylish, well-dressed crowd were the right ingredients for a successful fund-raising event. Despite the numerous other parties going on the same night that competed for this slice of New York society--the young, hip, up-and-coming affluent types--approximately 400 people attended, raising $75,000 for the museum.
Tessa Liebman and David Espinoza of Fletcher Morgan Catering coordinated the decor, catering donations and beverages for the event. To make the museum's cement-gray walls a little more festive, they brought in Stortz Lighting to bathe the pillars in bright red and blue lights. Fletcher Morgan decorated the tall cocktail tables with shimmering purple tablecloths from New York Specialty Linen and Party Rental, small bouquets of flowers and votive candles.
All of the catering was donated: Susan Holland & Company provided cocktail nuts, and Nicole's (who hosted a party for Marie Claire magazine the same night) brought desserts.
