1. STAGING THE DEBATE: From L.A. bureau chief Alice Dubin: Politico has a behind-the-scenes look at the planning for last night's Republican debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library in Simi Valley: "Behind the scenes, it was a massive, site-specific enterprise—part political convention, part traveling circus." Organizers worked around visitors while the museum was open throughout the busy holiday weekend. The backdrop and lights went up Monday, with foundation workers putting in 20-hour days to finish in time. On a floor of the library’s main building, Chris Matthews conducted interviews for "Hardball" throughout the day from a makeshift set.
