* INCOMING *

1. GRAMMY PARTY PREVIEW: From L.A. bureau chief Alesandra Dubin: The 54th-annual Grammy awards will air live on CBS from the Staples Center on Sunday, with LL Cool J as the show's first host in seven years. Meanwhile, the party hosts behind the various related bashes around Los Angeles this week—including Essence, Belvedere, and Cash Money—are largely returning for a party landscape that will look pretty similar to that of recent years. Here's a look at what's going on in the days leading up to the main event.

* Clive Davis and the Recording Academy will present the annual "Pre-Grammy Gala" February 11 at the Beverly Hilton with sponsors Harman, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Hyundai, and MasterCard Worldwide.
* Belvedere Red is hosting a party at the Avalon Hollywood February 9 with production and design by Tony Schubert and Event Eleven.
* Essence's "Black Women in Music" party February 8 will honor Kelly Rowland and Sylvia Rhone Rowland with performances by Eve and MC Lyte.
* The "Person of the Year" tribute will honor Paul McCartney February 10 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

3. MADONNA’S TIGHTROPE JUMPER: Speaking of the halftime show: The New York Times talked to Andy Lewis, who stood out in Madonna’s performance by doing a backflip on a tightrope, introducing viewers to a sport called slacklining: “in about 30 acrobatic seconds, wearing a toga and bouncing on what amounted to a two-inch-wide trampoline, Lewis brought slacklining to a mainstream audience that dwarfed any previous exposure.”

4. FASHION WEEK PREVIEW: From contributor Jim Shi: On Thursday, as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week ushers in its fourth installment at Lincoln Center, little on the Upper West Side campus has changed, but there has been plenty of buzz about the efforts happening off site. Many designers are increasing the size of their venues this season, a 180-degree turn from the more intimate spaces courted during the financial crisis. And although the larger sites don't necessarily mean larger guest lists, a number of designers are expected to feature more elaborate sets and backdrops.

Tommy Hilfiger and Derek Lam have both relocated out of the tents. The former will present his men's and women's collections at the Park Avenue Armory, and the latter will be at St. John's Center, where Jason Wu is also scheduled to show. Moncler, which has always carved its own niche for the Grenoble presentation—past shows have taken place on a Hudson River barge and inside Grand Central Terminal—will hit the ice at Wollman Rink in Central Park.

5. MORE MALL EVENTS: Shopping centers are working to become more rounded destinations. The New York Times: "The Simon Property Group, a large mall operator, is remodeling 15 to 20 malls a year, said its chief operating officer, Richard Sokolov. It is adding amenities like electric-car charging stations and stadium-seating theaters, and scheduling 20,000 events a year, like cooking demonstrations. Malls today have to 'provide a unique set of shopping, dining and entertainment experiences,' Mr. Sokolov said."

6. KOMEN CRISIS: After its controversial funding withdrawal from Planned Parenthood last week, Susan G. Komen for the Cure's new PR problem might impact its corporate partners. Ad Age: "Now its reputation—in a Harris poll last year Komen ranked second among nonprofits in terms of trust and tops in brand equity—and the stability of its relationships with corporate sponsors hangs in the balance. While it's said the organization has not lost any official corporate sponsors at this point, it will have its work cut out for it in the coming weeks in reaching out to sponsors, partners and affiliates."
