* INCOMING *

1. TRENDS AT SXSW: The music, film, and interactive conference kicked off Friday in Austin. Adweek lists the five trends to watch while at the event, including big data, social TV, and social discovery/ambient awareness. These and other trends generating buzz will be discussed at the annual SXSW Interactive Conference with 900 keynotes, panels, and workshops.

Brands like Virgin Mobile and all of the 32 NFL teams are using SXSW to promote new apps and products. Adweek: "Anyone who witnessed how Apple's launch of its App Store accelerated iPhone adoption shouldn't be shocked at a cell company would align itself with the mobile app ecosystem, but the fact that Virgin Mobile announced the program at an early-adopter event like SXSWi instead of promoting it in a more consumer-facing fashion might be a little shock."

2. CONVENTION CENTER OPINIONS: Crain's New York has a list of the city's largest public events and trade shows, including the auto show. Those affiliated with these large events are sounding off as to whether a new convention center would be a good move for New York. Mark Scheinberg, president of the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association " said a move to the proposed Queens convention center would benefit the auto show in certain ways. For example, the show would be able to take place on just one floor. However, he said he would have to carefully consider whether the event would have the same kind of draw for attendees and for exhibitors. For organizations hosting trade shows or events that are less tied to the region than the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association, not being in Manhattan could mean not choosing New York at all, Mr. Scheinberg said."
