June 13, 2013: How to Use Drones at Your Next Event, Brooklyn's Answer to South by Southwest, What's Inspiring Preston Bailey

1. HOW TO USE DRONES AT YOUR NEXT EVENT: Drone technology isn't just for the government. Consumer use is leading to gimmicks like this one: a drone that delivers food. Mashable: "London-based YO! Sushi, renowned for being the first sushi chain in the U.K. to deliver food via conveyor belt, is taking its service innovation to the next level: It’s introducing the world’s first flying restaurant tray." http://bit.ly/14XzlTO

2. BROOKLYN'S ANSWER TO SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST: The Northside Festival, which begins tonight, sees itself as Brooklyn's version of South by Southwest, but with lower ticket costs ($80 for access to music shows as opposed to $795 for the Austin festival) and with a local audience. The formula seems to be working: Northside is now in its fifth year with additions such as a film festival and tech conference. New York Times: “We’re sitting in a geographic space, Brooklyn, that is synonymous with what’s next,” said organizer Scott Stedman, 36. “Why annually is there a pilgrimage from New York to Austin to discover what’s next?” http://nyti.ms/18yFxcf

3. MODERN MOTHER NATURE INSPIRES PRESTON BAILEY: Want to see a design that's inspiring super event designer Preston Bailey? On his blog, he points readers to an instillation by Mokoto Tanijiri at the Diesel Denim Gallery in Aoyama, Tokyo. "Based on a walk through nature, the instillation shows a plastic tree that has grown through the store and covered the ceiling and walls with branches that give 'shade' to visitors in the store." http://bit.ly/15ZnPcY
