November 13, 2014: Mercedes-Benz May Drop New York Fashion Week Sponsorship, ’60 Minutes’ Crew Crashes 'Cosmo' Mag Event, Veterans Concert Hits Right Notes

1. MERCEDES-BENZ MAY DROP NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SPONSORSHIP: Mercedes-Benz, title sponsor of New York Fashion Week since 2009, may end its deal. Hollywood Reporter: “The shift would correspond with IMG's plan to move NYFW beginning in September to a new venue—thought to be in downtown Manhattan, rather than the staid Upper West Side. … Mercedes won't comment or reveal the value of its deal with NYFW, one of about 30 fashion weeks around the world it sponsors. And IMG, which says the NYFW events generate $865 million annually for New York and bring 110,000 media, individuals and designer contacts to the city twice a year, would only offer this statement to THR: ‘Mercedes-Benz is a valued global partner of ours across fashion, sports and several WME-IMG properties, including Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York, where they remain our title sponsor.’” http://bit.ly/1xAQZi3

2. ’60 MINUTES’ CREW CRASHES MAGAZINE EVENT: A 60 Minutes camera crew looking to interview Harvard Business School professor Amy Cuddy, a speaker at Cosmopolitan’s “Fun Fearless Life” conference in New York this weekend sneaked into the venue before being discovered. Women’s Wear Daily: “CBS had sent a crew to corner the professor for a '60 Minutes' segment on people who have become famous after their TED Talks. … The crew got through security, sources said, and were waiting backstage, but once they began unpacking their cameras, a building official told them they were not allowed to film inside due to union rules.” http://bit.ly/1wWFPUK

3. VETERANS CONCERT HITS RIGHT NOTES: A Veterans Day benefit concert in Washington with performances from Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Bruce Springsteen, the Black Keys, and others delivered strong performances worthy of the cause, according to a reviewer. Los Angeles Times: “An event that largely focused on guitar rock with a touch of country, hip hop and R&B tossed in for good measure, the production was mostly flawless. Artists obviously understood the import. Seldom, after all, do they get to perform on the National Mall, and the sets confirmed it. At its best, artists examined the range of ideas about what patriotism and empowerment—and tossed in some love songs for good measure.” http://lat.ms/1v6818P
