January 23, 2014: Infamous Event Crasher Plans Super Bowl Trip, Where People Really Party at Sundance, Preston Bailey’s Tips on Hiring Event Photographers

1. INFAMOUS EVENT CRASHER PLANS SUPER BOWL TRIP: It’s harder to crash events like the Super Bowl in today’s age of heightened security, but legendary gate crasher Dion Rich, 84, plans to attend this year’s game at MetLife Stadium. New York Post: “My goal is to crash a luxury suite, just so I can stay warm,’’ the Southern California native said of this Polar Vortex Super Bowl. http://bit.ly/LKzAiC

2. WHERE PEOPLE REALLY PARTY AT SUNDANCE: With a undersupply of hotel rooms—and sky-high rates— the best deal for many attendees of the Sundance Film Festival is to rent private homes. The venues quickly turn into party dens with catered dinners and bars, as well as satellite offices. The New York Times takes an after-hours look at where the celebrities, publicists, and other Sundance attendees go after the official parties end: “[Jessica] Meisels, 37, is the den mother of her company’s Sundance house, a three-story stone-and-timber ski chalet overlooking Deer Valley that, during the first weekend of the film festival (which runs through Sunday), slept 12 to 15 people each night and hosted dozens more during dinner parties.” http://nyti.ms/1bk5Xek

3. PRESTON BAILEY’S TIPS ON HIRING EVENT PHOTOGRAPHERS: Event planners looking to build a solid portfolio need photographs of their final product—before guests arrive. Preston Bailey, who has compiled those photos into books, advises: “Because of all the rush and activity on the big day, a photographer may have 15 minutes at most to get a good shot of the room. Make sure to make arrangements with the planner or the hotel manager to clear the room for those few minutes. This part is never going to be easy, but it’s essential and worth the effort and frustration it often entails.” http://bit.ly/LY9pWw
