New York-based Thompson Hotels has unveiled plans for a new luxury hotel off Washington's Thomas Circle, on 14th Street. The 14-story Donovan House, on the site of the former Washington Grande Hotel, is slated to open in March. It will have some 200 rooms (with Dean & DeLuca-stocked pantries), an open-air rooftop pool lounge, and two large banquet halls named after a famous Washington Post duo: Woodward and Bernstein.
Partnering with LaSalle Hotel Properties, Thompson has brought on New York firm Studio Gaia for the renovation, which mixes a minimalist style with materials such as limestone and teak. The hotel will also include an on-site restaurant from a celebrity chef, whose name has yet to be announced.
