August 7, 2013: Business Travel to Top $1 Trillion, Live Stream Shows Andy Warhol's Grave, Palm Springs's Meeting Marketing Blitz

1. BUSINESS TRAVEL TO TOP $1 TRILLION: Steady growth in business travel is expected to push spending over $1 trillion, according to a report from the Global Business Travel Association. Forbes: "It also serves as yet another wake-up call for the U.S. and Europe to improve aging infrastructure, establish fiscal order, and stay competitive, because emerging economies are increasingly focused on meeting their own fast-growing business travel needs.” http://onforb.es/14y0pzw

2. LIVE FEED SHOWS ANDY WARHOL'S GRAVE: Celebrating the iconic artist in the Internet age, the Andy Warhol Museum started a live stream of his grave to mark his 85th birthday. New York TImes: "The Webcam’s static shot is reminiscent of 'Empire,' Warhol’s 1964 movie which focused for eight hours on the Empire State Building. But more action may be coming: the EarthCam network said it would also set up a live feed at the church where Warhol was baptized; if people send flowers, they can watch them be delivered to his grave." http://nyti.ms/1erWRxi

3. PALM SPRINGS TO PLANNERS: BOOK HERE: Palm Springs Convention Center officials and sales staff from local hotels plan to call 900 meeting planners this week as part of a coordinated effort to bring business to the California city. The planners—who had previously held meetings in 16 competing markets—have been prepped with promotional materials about the destination. Desert Sun: "Much has been made about a need for more meetings and other events during the summer and 'shoulder' seasons—generally regarded as fall and spring seasons when tourism is not as strong as in winter, but still not as difficult to market as the summer season. Booking events during these seasons, particularly during midweek is especially important to tourism officials." http://mydesert.co/14y08N0
