Kids and their families wandering around Central Park lucked out when the Victorian Gardens Amusement Park at Wollman Rink became the site of Camp Hyatt. The two-day promotional event showed off the bevy of activities Hyatt Resorts offers to families vacationing at its 17 locations in the United States and the Caribbean.
Extraordinary Events—the company that put together the free event for the Hyatt's director of public relations Lori Armon—used the entry to the amusement park (open from May to September) as a center for crafts and activities. Six of the participating resorts hosted booths that highlighted their distinctive regional character. The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando had a miniature golf putting green and displays of live baby alligators and an iguana from All-Tame Animals.
While some opted for riding the amusement park's classic rides, many children decided to try out the coconut bowling—a popular activity provided by the staffers from the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman Resort. Three resorts from Hawaii grouped together to make lei necklaces and bracelets. Children could watch the leis being made and select the color of orchids they wanted included in their piece. The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in New Mexico offered a cool pottery making booth.
