Spirit of Mount Vernon Undergoes Largest Renovation in Boat's History

Adele Chapin
May 14, 2012

After a $500,000, three-month renovation, Entertainment Cruises' Spirit of Mount Vernon is sailing the Potomac again, now with a newly added rooftop bar on the revamped outdoor observation deck. As part of the largest renovation to the 176-foot dinner boat since it was built in 1989, Flanders Construction set out in January to brighten the interior of the two dining decks, with new lighting, new double-paned windows, and an extended window-seating area in the upper Delaware Deck. The renovation also added bright blue carpeting throughout the ship, tile dance floors, tile head floors, and a tiled foyer area by the port cargo door.

The ship has a capacity of 570, with guests split between the lower Potomac Deck and the upper Delaware Deck. Of the total party, 200 guests at any one time can enjoy views from the revamped observation patio.

The Spirit of Mount Vernon offers narrated trips to Mount Vernon, including full-day trips with round-trip fare and discounted admission at Mount Vernon,  one-way cruises to or from Mount Vernon, and 40-minute photo and sightseeing cruises. The entire ship can be rented for private, chartered events starting at $15,000 minimum dining cost for Sunday through Thursday, and $20,000 minimum dining cost for Friday and Saturday. Upgrade options for private events include enhanced menus, linens, chairs, and outdoor furnishings.

Upstairs, 200 guests can take in views from the ship's revamped outdoor observation deck, which now includes a full bar.
