Recalling a DoubleClick Willy Wonka-themed party for 2,000 at the Roxy more than a year ago--and the company's 10 percent staff cut this year--the story says the industry is forgoing the lavish, sometimes frat-like parties that once dominated Bernardo's List, the weekly email listing of Silicon Alley parties and events. "Sometimes you're lucky if there's any food," says Courtney Pulitzer, the host of Cocktails with Courtney, a long-running networking event. There are still industry parties, though: Jason McCabe Calacanis, the editor of the Silicon Alley Reporter, says he's hosting smaller gatherings for senior executives. "The networking has matured," he says. "It's elite. It's purposeful."
