New restaurant and lounge Industry (Food) is bringing a cozy, upscale look to the East Village. The East Sixth Street space that housed the minimalist Coup has been warmed up and lined with wood from a Vermont barn. Architect Paul Carroll designed the 3,000-square-foot space, which seats 110 on two levels. Upstairs is a glowing amber glass bar and cozy banquettes; downstairs a bilevel atrium and lounge has a wall upholstered in black leather and suede. The most unique touch: Two live birch tress grow directly through the downstairs bar (shown), with another sprouting through the floor. Opening this week, the New French-American restaurant offers a hip food pedigree: Co-owners Chris Eddy and Alex Freij met while working at the Mercer Kitchen, and executive chef Marco Morillo is a protégé of the late Jean-Louis Palladin. Their goal is to create a place for chefs and folks from other creative industries--hence the bizarre (and oddly punctuated) name. --Chad Kaydo
