The Lower East Side's upscale trendiness factor skyrocketed with the opening of Butter, a new restaurant from Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano. Designed by Andrew Phillips, Butter's all-wood interior is a warm, inviting place. The main dining room has a 20-foot-high arched ceiling, giving the room a tunnel-like feeling, and the space can seat 65 or holds 100 for cocktails. Putty-colored banquettes line the walls, and a giant illuminated photograph of a white birch forest decorates the rear wall. Downstairs the more casual Birch Room can seat 50 or hold 75 for cocktails, and the walls and ceiling are covered with rows of birch branches.
