THIS WEEK'S CALENDAR:
TUESDAY: Magic begins in Las Vegas (through Thursday)
THURSDAY: Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando (through Sunday)

* INCOMING *

1. TWILIGHT NO-SHOWS:
Twilight stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will not attend the final four official conventions for the film franchise after the real-life couple weathers a cheating scandal. Event promoters are left trying to pump up excitement for the events in Los Angeles, San Antonio, Detroit, and Parsippany, N.J. Zap2it: "Normally, in support of the film, the three leads have traveled the globe doing press appearances. This year, things may be dialed back significantly. Luckily, most promotional photoshoots for the film have already been taken care of." http://bit.ly/PoryuC

2. EVENT EMPIRE EXPANDS:
Svetlana Legetic—whose event production crew charges "from the low- to mid-five figures for the crew to pump up the image of embassies, create pop-up art events in not-yet-gentrified neighborhoods, and be behind-the-scenes consultants for those who simply want their aesthetic (and their crowd) to show up—has energized the social scene in Washington with her Brightest Young Things event, and now plans a New York expansion in September. New York Times: "Now Ms. Legetic wants to extend that empire to New York, a city that’s already saturated with events and event planners. She will be facing the challenge of bringing the Brightest Young Things spirit of a hipster egalitarianism culture to a place traditionally more interested in drawing power distinctions." http://nyti.ms/R7qyvm

3. FASHIONABLE JOB: Christina Neault, executive producer of New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, describes a typical day during the shows, how to deal with uninvited guests, and which city hosts the most fun event (hint: It's not New York). Women's Wear Daily: http://wwd.us/RvMH94

4. DEBATING THE DEBATES: Advocacy groups ramped up their calls last week for the Commission on Presidential Debates to add an event geared toward minority audiences. The commission previously rejected a request from Univision to stage a presidential debate. New York Times: http://nyti.ms/Pjqwjr

5. POLITICAL, AND SOCIAL, ANIMALS: The Republican National Convention and Tampa Bay Host Committee announced a mobile app to help delegates, media, and other guests during the event August 26-30. The app will provide live convention coverage and allow users to share their experiences on social networks. It also has maps, transportation and weather information, interactive trivia games, and a scavenger hunt that rewards users for scanning QR codes at local businesses. The app also allows users to purchase convention merchandise from the G.O.P. Store.

In a deal with the National Journal, car service Uber will provide discounted transportation to the publication's events during the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Washingtonian: http://bit.ly/Pzd4ck
