ZED451, a casual upscale restaurant offering a global approach to the South American steak-house concept, opened a downtown location in River North in April. (There are two suburban Chicago locations and two spots in Florida as well.)
Housed in a minimalist three-story, wood-paneled building, ZED451 offers two levels of dining, plus a 2,500-square-foot rooftop bar complete with a patch of real grass and a fireplace. The restaurant features a lounge off the main dining room, a glass-enclosed wine room, a separate wine bar, and a circular fire pit surrounded by communal tables.Don't look for menus at ZED451. Instead, servers continually bring around a variety of grilled meats and fish on skewers, and diners can visit the Harvest Tables, a series of displays filled with cheeses, breads, specialty salads, soups, and side dishes, as often as they wish. (Prices are prix fixe.) Signature cocktails made with fresh fruit juices and a global wine list are on offer as well.
Private and semiprivate dining can be accommodated in ZED's seven distinct spaces. The Clark Street Room holds 55 guests, the Crescent Room holds 85, the rooftop holds 120, an upstairs lounge seats 55, a fireside private dining room holds 125, the mezzanine can accommodate parties of 85, and the wine cellar holds 45. The entire restaurant is equipped with Wi-Fi and SMART Board technology. Full buyouts are available, and menus can be customized or chosen from a set of dining packages.
