A scant 200 guests made the invitee list for Elle’s Women in Hollywood event Monday night at the Four Seasons. Chelsea Handler assumed hosting duties for the event, which honored Hollywood icons including Halle Berry, Jane Fonda, Catherine Hardwicke, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Sigourney Weaver, and Isla Fisher.
Elle’s Eric Johnson oversaw the event for the magazine and worked with Larry Abel/De-signs for production. “The aesthetic we are going with this year is very clean, crisp, fresh—something that we feel is in line with Elle,” said Caitlin Weiskopf, the magazine's special events and merchandising manager, who also worked on the event.
Following the previous year's formula, guests arrived for cocktails at 6:30, passing a fountain that bore an Elle logo at the entrance to the space. Spandex linens stretched over the walls of the entire ballroom, which opened to guests at 7:30.
Nods to the event’s sponsors could be found in the centerpieces, which were made up of 14-inch mahogany-stained vases with Moet & Chandon bottles surrounded by purple orchids—a representation of Calvin Klein’s Euphoria fragrance.
The stage featured three types of textured panels layered to create a backdrop: The stage’s back wall was dark gray, a lighter gray drape covered a secondary wall in front of it, and tweed-like fabric draped another set of panels in front of the stage. “The uniqueness [of the event] is the surprise of the simplicity,” said Abel.
