BBJ Brings 40 Under 40 Awards to State Room

Erin L. Souza
October 13, 2010

The Boston Business Journal celebrated its 13th annual list of the 40 most talented up-and-comers under 40 years old in the local business community at the State Room on October 7, with an award ceremony and reception for 400 overlooking downtown Boston.

To mirror the high level of talent of the 400-plus nominees for this year’s list, the BBJ went for a standout venue. “Boston’s competitive advantage is its collective brainpower,” said publisher Chris McIntosh. “Our 40 Under 40 class reflects the deep talent pool and community spirit that make Boston an economic powerhouse and a great place to live.”

BBJ brought in State Room's management company, Longwood Events, to produce the award ceremony and cocktail reception, which featured BBJ branding throughout, from a projected 40 Under 40 logo on the floor to monogrammed cupcakes by I Dream of Jeanne. A special print section of the paper dedicated to the awards was placed on each attendee’s seat as a program.

McIntosh joined reporter Julie Donnelly to present the awards. Two large projection screens highlighted each winner as he or she came to the stage to receive the award, with a unique song aptly chosen to suit the honoree’s organization or name. Winners ran the gamut from public relations and marketing executives to attorneys and creative communications C.E.O.s.

Decor was minimal and focused on lighting, which allowed the State Room’s sweeping views of the city—through floor-to-ceiling windows—to set the backdrop.
