Orlando has two new companies that offer catering for meetings and events. One even serves breakfast.
1. Bananas Diner opened in August on Mills Avenue, just north of downtown Orlando. Created by Eddie Nickell and Nicholas Olivieri, the team behind Funky Monkey Wine Company, Bananas opens at 6 a.m. daily and also delivers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast menu includes traditional favorites like pancakes and eggs, along with specialty items such as the AM Cristo, a sandwich made with French toast, a fried egg, American cheese, and sausage, ham, or bacon, for $8.99. There are also five styles of eggs Benedict, and for lunch, 18 types of burgers. Of course, every good diner offers milk shakes—Bananas can bring old-fashioned fun to an in-office event with nine varieties for $6.99 each, including the Phone Home, a mix of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, Yoo-Hoo, and crushed Reese’s cups.
2. Jenny Monroe and Michele Nunnelley started Lunchbox Ladies in 2009 as a catering service for school employees (hence the name). This fall, they added business catering to the menu. For $7, the Lunchbox Ladies will deliver the “Full Course Load,” which includes a full-size salad, wrap, or sub sandwich, or the “Multiple Choice,” a choice of two items from a list of soups, half wraps, half subs, and half salads. Both options come with a small dessert. The menu changes monthly, with rotating items such as the “Teacher’s Pet” wrap (chicken salad, red grapes, peanuts, celery, red onions, and romaine lettuce with tarragon mayonnaise). Every lunch box has a personalized label listing each customer's name and order.
