The aptly named Mass Ave officially opened for business on Monday—on Massachusetts Avenue—bringing a menu of shareable plates and a hip take on a librarylike den to the former Match space: Think rich red walls, built-in bookshelves filled with vintage tomes, and cognac-colored leather chairs around dark wooden tables.
The latest venture from the team behind Alibi and Back Bay Social Club, Mass Ave is one open space with a capacity of 180, anchored by a bar with seating for 24 and a 12-foot fire pit. The bar area, with total capacity of 60, is available for semiprivate events, as are the communal dining tables in the center of the room, with seating for 32.
The menu concept is all about sharing, with a focus on American small plates and larger family-style dishes, including Kobe cheese steak sliders, truffled mac and cheese, and lobster grilled cheese. The cocktail list includes quirky spins on the traditional sidecar and margarita, and also incorporates food with drink in cocktails like the Mass, a mezcal shot in an edible cucumber cup.
