Supporters were invited to eat, spend, drink, and spend some more at the Canadian Film Centre's largest annual fund-raiser this year, called A Passage to India.
Event and entertainment designers from Kyriacou and Associates blended lush fabrics, vibrant graphics, and live decor to bring the subcontinental theme to life. Chair-man Mills dressed dining tables with orange and fuchsia linens, and low-standing florals in the same palette from Forget Me Not Flowers completed the look. Dancers in traditional dress from Navrang Academy of Indian Performing Arts added a touch of authenticity.
The live and silent auctions were the main focus of the evening. Among the many live auction highlights were a $10,000 shopping spree at Holt Renfrew and a trip for two to India, courtesy of Aeroplan. The raffle for nearly $20,000 in Tiffany & Company products conjured much interest as well.
While guests were busy emptying their wallets, Xacutti provided a four-course dinner to fill their stomachs. The gala menu included green pea and corn samosas with tomato, tamarind, and mango chutneys; a Kashmiri chili-cantaloupe sorbet by Gelato Fresco; roasted spice-crusted monkfish with tomato-lemon sauce and steamed basmati rice; and carrot toffee pudding with cardamom caramel and Devon cream.
