On March 23, guests at a launch party for the Diesel & Edun collection feasted on snacks served in bamboo shoots. Held at Ron Herman Melrose boutique in Los Angeles, the event had qualities inspired by the collection itself: sustainability and modern Africa. (The denim collection is produced in Africa, and represents an effort to build sustainable trade with the continent.)

With catering from Mauro Cafe—the in-house restaurant at the posh store—the event's menu featured African-inspired small bites that were served in bamboo disposables, including the shoots. "I thought that the bamboo disposables did not compromise the overall look," said café owner Evelyne Joan. "On the contrary, it gives a more genuine, authentic, African look." Bites included sweet potato fries with thyme, parsley, and garlic; chilled cucumber-avocado-mint soup; and traditional South African chicken curry.

The food was served at a fruit-stand-style station built out of reclaimed wooden palates and beverage crates. The laid-back affair was produced by M Crown Productions in conjunction with Diesel and Ron Herman's event producer, Josh Madson.
