It’s official: Pantone has picked emerald as the top color of 2013. The annual announcement always comes with some pseudo-sociological reflections—while tangerine, 2012’s reigning color, “provided the energy boost we needed to recharge and move forward,” according to Pantone’s press release, emerald is “the color of growth, renewal, and prosperity, [as] no other color conveys regeneration more than green.”

Lobbying firm the Carmen Group welcomed returning members of Congress back in 2008 with a green-hued event in Washington. Accordingly, the bar served up all things green: mojitos, margaritas, Midori drinks, and Lucid absinthe.

For a two-day experience-based activation in 2010, Heineken illuminated the exterior of Miami's Moore Building with emerald green lighting to match the brand's logo.

In November, the National Association for Catering and Events hosted its annual fund-raising gala in Washington. Drawing inspiration from classic fairy tales, the benefit incorporated design elements from stories like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. In the Emerald City lounge, the LED curtain behind the DJ booth was lit green to match the drapes.

For New Year's Eve last year, Rebar at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago hosted a celebration inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, where green lighting evoked the glowing Emerald City.

In 2007, The Royal Ontario Museum celebrated a recently completed renovation with a gala fund-raiser. The after-party unfolded in five separate rooms all furnished by Contemporary Furniture Rentals. One of the rooms featured a lounge with emerald-colored couches.

The Fairmont Hotels and Resorts' Grand Chefs gala and Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence in Chicago had an Emerald City theme in 2011. Students from the Harrington College of Design handled decor, and reps from Pagliuco Design Company developed the theme.

Miami's Junior Achievement celebrated the opening of its new experiential learning center in 2009 with a street-fair-style party held throughout the facility's three indoor miniature cities. In the green-hued dessert room, Jack Hammer Live Audio projected a gobo in the same pattern as the table linens.
