The Society of Professional Journalists’ Florida Chapter will confer its 23rd annual awards to the best print, broadcast, and online journalism in 2016. Organizers say plans for an awards ceremony this year have not been set; last year’s awards presentation, which included Spanish-language media for the third year, took place at the Fire Fighters Memorial Building in Miami.

#4 Film & Media Event
The festival celebrated its 20th anniversary bringing Brazilian culture and cinema to the U.S. market last year. Organizers expect to entertain 4,000 cinema buffs over the festival’s duration this year. Next: September 16-23, 2017

The festival brings together 1,200 global and Latin American media and entertainment executives for two days of networking, awards, and a technology startup showcase at the Turnberry Isle Miami. Last year's event was one of a number affected by Hurricane Matthew, with organizers canceling the event because of the storm, but it will return this fall. Next: October 30-31, 2017

In January, 5,000 media executives and 200 speakers from more than 70 countries converged on the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc in Miami Beach for the three-day market and conference. This year, organizers introduced networking meet-ups and a master-class series. Next: January 16-18, 2018

The eighth annual gathering of Latino bloggers and media professionals drew more than 3,000 professionals in digital content, marketing, entertainment, and business. It also added a C.M.O. Summit this year, featuring executives from companies including Pepsico, Carnival Corporation, and Prudential. Next: Spring 2018

#9 Film & Media Event
The festival celebrated its 15th anniversary last year, bringing more than 100 films of 30 minutes or less—chosen from a pool of more than 800 applicants—to South Florida. Next: November 6-12, 2017
