US: Cairns Convention Centre's Expansion, PCMA Convening Leaders Announces 2024-2027 Hosts, Wicket's New President, and More

GLOBAL: Cairns Convention Centre will unveil its major expansion in June. Enhancements to the Australian venue, now with a maximum capacity of 2,500 guests, include the addition of a rooftop banquet area, three state-of-the-art meeting rooms, an exhibition and plenary lecture space that can host 400 people, and more. The new Trinity Level—perfect for large cocktail functions for up to 500 guests—offers views of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. 

NATIONAL: PCMA has announced the future host cities for its flagship Convening Leaders event for 2024-2027. The education and networking event will take place in San Diego in 2024, hosted by San Diego Tourism Authority; Houston in 2025, hosted by Visit Houston and Houston First Corporation; Philadelphia in 2026, hosted by Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau; and Miami in 2027, hosted by Greater Miami CVB. 

Facial authentication platform Wicket has appointed Alastair Partington as company president. As co-founder and CEO of biometric identification company Tascent, Partington now joins Wicket to help drive the company toward growth and expansion of its facial authentication capabilities in its current realm of sports venues, and also beyond into other industries. 

FONTANA, WIS.: The newly renovated Abbey Resort and Avani Spa is inviting guests to explore its 40,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space. Recent renovations include upgrades to all 300 guest rooms, all meeting spaces, and common areas. A quick drive from both Chicago and Milwaukee, the 90-acre resort is capable of hosting both small and large events that can be tailored to specific conference and meeting needs. 

MIAMI: The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami is offering a series of educational and public programming in June to commemorate Pride Month and Caribbean-American Heritage Month. The lineup includes “Lonnie Holley: If You Really Knew,” which features 70 works, including sandstone sculptures, paper, and large-scale quilt paintings; and LIZN'BOW’s “El Mundo Es Magico,” which features displaced queer characters.
