Looking for a new venue for your next event? Here are the most anticipated New York restaurants, corporate event venues, hotels, conference centers, and cultural spaces slated to open in 2019. These new and renovated New York venues will accommodate groups large or small for private and corporate events, conferences, meetings, weddings, business dinners, teambuilding activities, cocktail parties, and more.
1. Poised to become a destination cultural space in Manhattan, the $475 million Shed is scheduled to open on April 5. The 200,000-square-foot arts center will be Hudson Yard's cultural hub. Designed by lead architect Diller Scofidio & Renfro and collaborating architect Rockwell Group, the venue will have various spaces for events. Overall, it will hold groups of 1,250 theater style or 3,000 people standing.
2. One of the most anticipated hotels is the TWA Hotel, opening in the 1962 Eero Saarinen-designed TWA terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in late spring. The 512-room hotel will have 50,000 square feet of event space accommodating groups of as many as 1,600 people in addition to 200,000 square feet of flexible space in the former TWA terminal, including terraces and an observation deck. Another highlight: chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will open the Paris Café restaurant in the footprint of the terminal's former Paris Café and Lisbon Lounge.
3. Expected to open in May, the Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island will welcome and educate visitors to the national monument. The building will be a freestanding structure, moving the existing museum out from the statue's pedestal. It will have three galleries including an "immersive theater," and it will display the statue's original torch. The museum is being built to achieve LEED Gold certification and will have features like a green roof. It will be available for private events, with details to come this spring.
4. The Museum of Modern Art plans to finish a renovation and expansion this year that will add 40,000 square feet of gallery space, new space for education programming, and a sixth-floor lounge and terrace, a first-floor lounge with views of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, and more. The $450 million project is by architects Diller Scofidio & Renfro and Gensler.
5. Event venue the Glasshouses in Chelsea is opening a second, larger location in Hell's Kitchen this fall. Called the Glasshouse, the 75,000-square-foot space will have seating for 1,850 and include multiple spacious terraces that offer panoramic views of Manhattan from the sixth-floor space. Built for events, the space will have amenities such as built-in lighting and rigging, two commercial kitchens, and V.I.P. spaces including green rooms.
6. The Hudson Yards development is set to become a culinary destination, attracting heavyweights including José Andrés, David Chang, and Michael Lomonaco for its 25 dining concepts. The curator is chef Thomas Keller—of Per Se in New York and the French Laundry in Northern California—who plans to open TAK Room in March. The restaurant will serve Continental cuisine and have a 1950s vibe with touches such as tableside preparation and a champagne cart. Capacity details have not been officially released, but it is reported to have 200 seats.
7. In advance of its 60th anniversary in 2020, Pace Gallery announced plans for a new flagship gallery in Chelsea to open in September. The eight-story, 75,000-square-foot building is designed by Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture and will include indoor and outdoor exhibition galleries; a 2,200-square-foot space for new media works, performance, and public programming; a research library; and more. The building is being designed to earn LEED Silver certification.
8. Equinox—known for its high-end gyms—will expand to the hospitality industry with Equinox Hotel, slated to open this year in Hudson Yards. Promising to provide a space "where the science of fitness meets the art of travel," the hotel will have 212 rooms.
9. Overlooking Times Square, the second location of Marriott’s luxury Edition brand is set to debut in the first quarter of 2019. The 452-room Times Square Edition will have a 5,000-square-foot performance venue and a 1,900-square-foot meeting studio, in addition to a restaurant and 5,800-square-foot beer garden and event deck.
10. A sister property to NoMad's hipster Ace Hotel, Sister City is slated to open on March 1 on the Lower East Side. The 200-room hotel will feature a rooftop bar as well as a ground-floor restaurant, Floret, from chef Joe Ogrodnek. In addition, a 285-room Ace Hotel is slated to open this summer in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill neighborhood, with event space on the second and third floors.
