Britney Turner, CMP, 32
Meeting Planner, DMI Events, Global Leader in Oil & Gas Client Account, Houston
What I do:
I plan and support a wide range of events, conferences and corporate meetings for various business partners within our Fortune 10 oil and gas client account.
How I got here:
I started my career in the hospitality industry in 2012 working for Marriott Hotels, formerly known as Starwood Hotels. During my time there, I shifted my focus to event management. I realized I had such an excitement for creating spaces for individuals to connect, engage and meet business goals. From there, I transitioned into future roles as a meeting planner working in both the travel and tourism and oil and gas industries.
My greatest career accomplishment:
Earning my CMP designation in 2019 and joining the 2018-19 MPI Houston Area Chapter board as the director of education.
Impressive stats:
As the 2018-19 MPI-HAC director of education, our goals to meet the January 2019 luncheon revenue and survey feedback results were exceeded. We also had a significant increase in our education committee volunteer participation through active recruitment and engagement.
What I'm working on right now:
The opportunity to advance my skill set and expertise in planning virtual and hybrid events. One of my goals is to complete the digital event strategist program and earn my certification.
What I do outside of work:
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Beyond that, I usually find solace in spending time at home with my fur baby, Mylo, and getting in some nice R&R. I’m also a current member of the MPI Houston Area Chapter and actively volunteer when my schedule permits it.
Favorite vacation destination:
Visiting my second hometown area, Lake Travis in Austin. The distance is not far from me, so it is most definitely a go-to spot for a short but effective weekend getaway.
Favorite icebreaker line:
I like to introduce myself with a big smile and a friendly handshake.
Travel hack:
The bundle packing method for wrinkle-free clothes in a carry-on when traveling. It is a game changer.
