2016 40 Under 40: Patricia Giannini, CMP, CEM

Patricia GianniniPatricia Giannini, CMP, CEM 37, Director of Events Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International, Daytona Beach, Fla.

What she does: Giannini ensures APCO events continue to meet the changing needs of the association’s 20,000-plus members and oversees its annual conference and expo, which attracts more than 5,800 public safety communications officials (“You know them better as the voice that answers your 911 call,” she says).

Giveback: “Through my own initiative, I developed two important community awareness programs that occur annually during our conference. The blood drive, now in its sixth year, has resulted in the donation of several hundred pints of blood to blood banks across the country. I also created The Living Room, where health and wellness sessions are presented to conference attendees. Both of these initiatives have resonated with our attendees because of their high-stress work as public safety communications officials.”

Next-gen strategy: “To streamline our conference volunteer registration and scheduling, my team implemented VolunteerSpot, an online volunteer management tool that greatly enhanced the experience of our nearly 200 volunteers and our ability to manage their efforts on-site.”
