Lindsay Borkowski, 38, works in Bend, Oregon, as director of sales and conventions at Sunriver Resort, A Destination Hotels Company. As a 2018 40 Under 40 honoree, Borkowski discusses her passion for the events industry.

How I got here: I graduated from University of Tennessee with a degree in hotel and restaurant administration. While in school, I took a summer job in Bend, Oregon, at a small dude ranch where I worked as a wrangler. After graduating I decided to stay in Bend and worked at several hotels in different roles before landing my dream job as a sales manager at Sunriver Resort. From there, I have worked my way up, being promoted to director of sales and, most recently, director of sales and conventions.
Greatest career accomplishment: I have achieved Chairman’s’ Club (115 percent or greater of booking goal) for eight straight years.
Impressive stats: We continue to achieve record sales results each year with a team booking, totaling $13.4 million.
Specific improvement I’ve made: I partnered with our chef and came up with seasonal, specialty menus targeted to off-season groups that were written with ingredients and selections to retain our profit margin. These have been hugely successful and in place now for the last six years.
What I do outside of work: In my free time, I am volunteer captain at Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Academy. Healing Reins provides horse-centered therapy for people of all ages with challenges ranging from physical to emotional. Aside from that, my free time is spent with my two small children (Violet, 4 and Emerson, 2) and my husband.
