Among the numerous events that had to be rescheduled after the attack on the World Trade Center was the 53rd annual Emmy awards in Los Angeles. Originally slated for Sunday, September 16, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' awards will now take place October 7. According to Entertainment Weekly's Web site, the event will have "a more somber telecast" that will acknowledge the attacks. Host Ellen DeGeneres probably won't do a monologue, but expect the academy to honor the thousands of people killed in the disaster, including entertainment industry folks. More scoop: The academy is concerned about how the event might be viewed outside of Hollywood, after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association took some slack after holding the Golden Globes only five days after Los Angeles' 1994 earthquake.

The Oscars were postponed for two days in 1968 because of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., and for one day in 1981 because of the assassination attempt against President Ronald Reagan." Also, the Oscar ceremony--which is facing its own questions, with a squabble over security--nixed dining and dancing during wartime, and banned formal wear for the ceremony during World War II, and asked performers to donate money to war funds instead buying corsages.
