The Los Angeles Times’ Debra Netblum describes Kanye West’s pre-VMA bash at the Venetian as “loud” and busts the celebs in attendance for spending the majority of their time in gift suites. She also highlights West’s relatively intimate gig at the Joint for Rolling Stone, grousing about the start time (2 a.m., an hour later than promised), offering that it “felt like walking onto a party that only exists in the movies” and confirming that West’s performance was indeed worth the wait.The Associated Press’s Sandy Cohen identifies the official VMA after-party at the Palms as the first stop of choice, and writes of co-host Jamie Foxx's personally pouring “fruity shots” into female guests’ mouths from the stage. Cohen also reports a capacity crowd at Diddy’s LAX after-party—so packed, in fact, that the stairway leading down to the dance floor was closed off.
The hometown Las Vegas Review-Journal writes of perhaps one of the most dramatic issues of the weekend: the collapsing stage at 50 Cent’s Hard Rock Hotel pool concert on Saturday. After real cash was thrown into the crowd, the stage above the pool started to sink. (50 and crew made a quick escape following unsuccessful pleas to the crowd to retreat.) According to the Review-Journal, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.
