Finding the right host for an event is always a challenge, even when the event isn't going to be watched by tens of millions of viewers. For every Bob Hope—who amicably served as host of the Academy Awards 14 times—you have duds such as Anne Hathaway and James Franco.
With this season's major award shows finished, planning already is under way for next year's Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammys. BizBash wondered who event planners would choose as M.C. for the shows.
"Justin Timberlake would tear up the stage," says Robert Krumbine of Charlotte Center City Partners. "Dynamic, multitalented, quick-witted, all-star!"
Sharon Jarrett, president and C.E.O. of Jarrett Affairs & Productions suggests Steve Harvey. "Comedy, creative, crossover, and clever!" she says.
For fun, Mike McAllen of Grass Shack Events & Media suggests William Shatner, who actually appeared in Sunday night's Oscar telecast advising host Seth MacFarlane in a sketch on how to not ruin the evening. "If you can captain a starship I think you can probably captain an awards show pretty well," McAllen says.
Chicago's Entertaining Company suggests Drew Barrymore as Oscars host. The third generation of her family to have a Hollywood career, the actress already has appeared on the show as a presenter.
Author and speaker David Gee of 3 Second Selling would like to see two-time Best Actor winner Tom Hanks host the Oscars. "I interviewed him four times and he wins the day with talent and grace," he says.
Brad Phillips, a freelance event planner, thought Tina Fey and Amy Poehler should be asked back to host the Golden Globes following their well-received turn this year. "They're a perfect match for the show's light, fun mood," he says.
