The Miami Performing Arts Center announced yesterday that it has been renamed the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. The name change was the result of a $20 million aggregate gift from the Carnival Corporation, which has been the largest donation the center has received to date. The corporation had previously had a concert hall named after it, but with a concurrent pledge by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, it, too, has been renamed. It is now the Knight Concert Hall. The 570,000-square-foot Carnival Center is scheduled for completion this October, where it will host a grand opening celebration kicked off by a performance by Gloria Estefan and her celebrity friends.
