1. HOW COMPANIES MAXIMIZE THEIR E3 PRESENCE: Before the massive video game conference and trade show E3 kicks off on Sunday in Los Angeles, companies like Microsoft and Electronic Arts have let fans not attending the event know how to access live streams of their press conferences. This year there are seven such events, a record. Mashable previews the announcements, along with the brand’s live-streaming plans: http://on.mash.to/1TgcaAw
2. VANS WARPED TOUR DEBUTS MUSIC EDUCATION COMPONENT: School’s out, but music fans attending this summer’s Vans Warped Tour can learn about the industry at workshops planned for each tour stop. The effort, dubbed the Entertainment Institute, goes beyond typical meet-and-greet sessions. San Gabriel Valley Tribune: “Each workshop is led by a musician from one of the bands on the Vans Warped Tour and, just like the band lineups, the session times also will be announced on the morning of the concert. Attendees can learn about lyrics and songwriting, instrument techniques, forging a career in the music industry and more.” http://on.mash.to/1TgcaAw
3. DEFENDING A NEW WATER PARK IN DROUGHT-PLAGUED CALIFORNIA: A new community water park in drought-stricken California is drawing complaints about wasteful water usage, but a closer look reveals the city of Dublin, California, may have a case for building the complex. Los Angeles Times: “In a case of what seemed like spectacularly bad timing, Dublin had just broken ground on a new water park. When the project is complete, there will be two pools. A water playground with a fake beach. And six 125-foot water slides shooting off a main tower. … It has been planned for a decade. When the park opens in 2017, drought willing, they anticipate about 500 daily visitors, with perhaps as many as 1,000 on very hot summer days.” http://lat.ms/1dAGmWa
